ETHER Drink Recipes

Drink Ingredients for 3 recipes

Asteriod Extraction:

This beverage is presented in a tall narrow glass resembling a pipette or beaker and consists of a black liquid with edible gold and silver flecks floating on the surface. The drink has a distinctly fishy odour and is dark and opaque. This was imagined as sludge or runoff from an industrial mining operation on an asteroid or other celestial body such as the Moon. The pungent aroma emanating from the vial is meant to offset the allure of the gold and silver flakes representing raw materials.

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup Water

  • 1 tsp Squid ink powder

  • Edible silver and gold flakes

Instructions:

  • Dissolve squid ink powder into room temperature water, sprinkle with silver and gold flakes. Serve in beaker.

Spiritous Milky Way:

Recent studies in astrobiology have determined (based on the existence of the chemical ethyl formate at the centre of the galaxy) that the Milky Way would taste like raspberries and smell like rum (Human Plus, 2021). The popsicle is ideallyconsumed while standing outside on a hot summer day or in the light of a heat lamp to evoke the extreme temperature differentials of the cosmos and the radiation that astronauts are exposed to in space without the protective shield of our atmosphere.

Ingredients:

  • 5 Raspberries

  • ½ cup Rum

  • ½ cup Milk or milk alternative

Instructions:

  • Soak raspberries in rum for 10 minutes. Fill popsicle mold or freezer tray with milk and suspend raspberries inside. Don’t forget the wooden popsicle stick!

Martian Potation:

This beverage is a rusty red colour with visible particulates floating about the vial and a thick layer of sediment on the bottom. This drink represents the dusty surface of Mars and hints at a slightly organic feature. What is the taste of water on Mars?

Ingredients:

½ cup Fruit juice medley

½ tsp Dark smoked paprika powder

½ tsp Cinnamon

Instructions:

Mix ¼ tsp of dark smoked paprika powder and ¼ tsp cinnamon into the fruit juice. Swirl the contents around until clumps of sediment form at the bottom and float in the glass. Lightly dust the surface of the beverage with the remaining powders.
